The Talon-A separation test vehicle’s air-launched prototype, TA-0, was successfully flown by Roc, the largest aircraft in the world and a creation of Stratolaunch.

The flight travelled across the Mojave Desert for five hours and six minutes, climbing to a height of 23,000 feet. Measurement of the aerodynamic loads on the Talon-A vehicle was the primary goal of the flight. Aerodynamic predictions will be verified by capturing these loads in flight to make sure the release mechanism works as intended.
The test made it quite evident that Roc could act as a launch site for hypersonic vehicles. The test included a 28-foot-long Talon prototype vehicle mounted to a pylon in the middle of the 385-foot-wide wings of the aircraft.
Unknown to the uninitiated, Talon-A vehicles are reusable, Mach 5-capable, hypersonic test aircraft that can carry customised payloads. The business has already started producing the TA-2 and TA-3, the first totally reusable hypersonic test vehicles.
“We have conducted a variety of ground tests in anticipation of this first captive carry flight, and with each successful test milestone achieved, we have built confidence that the hardware will perform exactly as it was designed,” said Dr. Zachary Krevor, chief executive officer and president of Stratolaunch. It’s thrilling to witness the results of the team’s labour of love as the cars operate as a cohesive system.

I was thrilled to see those two automobiles united, Krevor continued.
